Date Posted:Fri, 19th Jun 2026
Royal Caribbean has officially welcomed Legend of the Seas to its revolutionary Icon Class fleet following a delivery ceremony at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, marking a major milestone for the cruise line ahead of the ship's inaugural season in Europe this summer.

The celebration brought together senior executives from Royal Caribbean Group and Meyer Turku, including Royal Caribbean Group Chairman and CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean President and CEO Michael Bayley, and Meyer Turku CEO Casimir Lindholm. More than 1,200 crew members, shipbuilders, engineers, designers and partners attended the event, commemorating the official transfer of ownership after nearly two years of construction.

Legend of the Seas becomes the third vessel in Royal Caribbean's groundbreaking Icon Class series, following the successful launches of Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas. The ship represents another step in the cruise line's strategy to redefine modern family vacations through innovative ship design, immersive entertainment, diverse dining options and destination-focused experiences.

Speaking at the ceremony, Jason Liberty highlighted the significance of the delivery as part of Royal Caribbean Group's broader vision for the future of vacations and the continued expansion of its next-generation fleet.
The delivery also reinforces Royal Caribbean Group's long-term partnership with Meyer Turku. The companies currently have a framework agreement extending through 2036, which includes future Icon Class vessels scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2030.
Before welcoming its first guests, Legend of the Seas will complete final preparations in Cadiz, Spain, ahead of its inaugural voyage on 4 July 2026. The ship will spend its first season in Europe offering 7-night Western Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona and Rome (Civitavecchia), visiting some of the region's most sought-after destinations.

Following its European debut, the vessel will reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in November 2026 to operate Western and Southern Caribbean itineraries, with every sailing featuring a visit to Royal Caribbean's award-winning private destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Designed around eight distinct neighbourhoods, Legend of the Seas introduces Royal Caribbean's most extensive dining lineup to date, featuring 28 venues. New concepts include the Hollywood-inspired Supper Club, Royal Railway – Legend Station, an immersive train-themed dining experience, and the AquaDome Market food hall.
Entertainment offerings span stage, air, water and ice, including new productions such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, America's Got Talent LIVE, AquaTheater spectaculars and ice-skating performances at Absolute Zero.
The ship will also feature seven pools, including Royal Bay, the largest pool at sea, along with family-focused attractions such as Splashaway Bay and Surfside. Adventure seekers can experience Crown's Edge, Category 6 Waterpark, FlowRider surf simulator, rock climbing walls and a variety of other adrenaline-filled activities.
Signature Icon Class features also return on Legend of the Seas, including the open-air Central Park neighbourhood with more than 30,500 live plants, the Royal Promenade with expansive ocean views, and The Pearl, the world's largest kinetic art sculpture at sea.
On the accommodation front, guests can choose from a range of staterooms and suites, including the reimagined Ultimate Family Townhouse, designed specifically for multigenerational travel and larger family groups.
Environmental sustainability remains a key focus for the vessel. Legend of the Seas becomes Royal Caribbean's fourth LNG-powered ship and incorporates advanced technologies such as waste heat recovery systems and shore power connectivity. The vessel forms part of Royal Caribbean Group's broader ambition to introduce a net-zero cruise ship by 2035.
With its combination of innovative attractions, expanded dining, sustainability initiatives and family-focused experiences, Legend of the Seas represents the latest chapter in the evolution of the Icon Class and further strengthens Royal Caribbean's position in the global cruise market.
Legend of the Seas will make its maiden voyage on 4 July 2026, launching a new era of Mediterranean cruising before beginning Caribbean operations later in the year.
With its inaugural European season now underway, Legend of the Seas offers travelers the opportunity to experience Royal Caribbean's newest Icon Class vacation on 7-night Western Mediterranean sailings from Barcelona and Rome between July and October 2026.
