There’s something quite powerful about seeing the value of membership play out in real time.

This week, I received a WhatsApp from one of our members in the sporting industry. It was a simple, candid message: they were looking for support in sports content, PR and communications, and wanted to know if anyone within the BCCD could help.

I said I’d take a look and come back to them. As I went through our network, one company immediately came to mind - a communications specialist with strong experience in the sports sector.

The only catch? Their membership had recently lapsed.

Before responding, I picked up the phone. Within minutes, I was speaking directly with the team. Not only did they confirm their expertise in sports PR, including work on major events and established media relationships, but they were genuinely excited about the opportunity.

When I mentioned their membership status, they were surprised; the renewal reminders had simply been missed in a busy inbox. They asked for the invoice to be resent straight away. Shortly after, I connected both members.

They’re now meeting next week to explore the opportunity further; and the communications firm has since renewed their membership. It’s a simple story, but an important one.

This is exactly what membership is about: real connections, timely introductions, and exciting business opportunities. It’s not just about being listed in a directory, it’s about being front of mind when it matters.
