Building Confidence, Saving Lives: Why Lifesaving Skills Matter More Than Ever

At Ocean Warriors, we believe lifesaving is more than just a skill — it’s a mindset. One that builds confidence, resilience, and the ability to act when it truly matters.

We are a British Life Saving Club, affiliated with both Surf Life Saving GB (SLSGB) and Royal Life Saving UK (RLSS UK). In fact, we are the first and only SLSGB Club outside of the UK, and the only affiliated RLSS UK Club in the UAE.

We follow the pathways of both these internationally recognised awarding bodies, ensuring a high standard of instruction, safety, and progression across all levels of our programmes:

  • SLSGB at the beach: 4-13yrs Nippers (Bronze, Silver, Gold) -> 14-16yrs (Surf Life saver) -> over 16yrs Youth & Adults (Surf Lifeguard, Trainer, coach).
  • RLSS UK in the pool: Rookie Lifeguard for 8-12yrs and National Lifeguard Academy for Youth aged 12yrs and over. Pool Lifeguard and Trainer certifications for adults.

In the UK, water safety education is undergoing a significant shift, led by the Department for Education and supported by organisations including RLSS UK, Swim England, and the RNLI. The focus is moving away from a sole emphasis on distance swimming (such as the traditional 25m benchmark) and towards essential real-world skills like survival, risk awareness, and decision-making in and around water. This change reflects a national effort to reduce drowning incidents and better prepare young people for real aquatic environments — a direction that is highly relevant to life here in Dubai, where children are regularly exposed to swimming pools, beaches, and open water. At Ocean Warriors, this is exactly what we deliver on the ground every week through practical, scenario-based training in real environments.

Here in Dubai, where beaches, pools, and water-based activities are part of everyday life, these skills are not optional — they are essential. Our programmes are designed to build confidence in and around water, while also developing fitness, discipline, teamwork, and leadership.

For secondary school students, Ocean Warriors also provides an opportunity to contribute towards the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Lifesaving skills can be used within the Skills section across Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels, offering meaningful, real-world development alongside formal achievement.

Term 3 is already underway, but it’s not too late to join!

Whether your child is a confident swimmer or just starting their journey, our programmes are designed to support every level — building capability step by step.

Because at Ocean Warriors, we’re not just teaching skills for the water — we’re shaping capable, confident young people ready for life.
