A World-Class British Online School Now in the Middle East – Here’s What British Families Need to Know

At Minerva Virtual Academy, we know that choosing the right school for your child is one of the biggest decisions you’ll ever make. For families living overseas—especially those who move frequently, have unique schedules, or are seeking a more personalised and supportive learning experience —traditional schooling can sometimes feel like it just doesn’t quite fi t. That’s why we are delighted to share the launch of an exceptional British online school experience, now fully accessible to families across the Middle East.

Minerva’s Virtual Academy (MVA) is an award-winning, independent British online school that’s already changing lives for families in the UK, and now it’s here in the Middle East. With a structured approach, outstanding teaching, and a real sense of community, MVA offers something quite different to what many expect from an ‘online’ school.

To help answer your questions, we’ve put together a Q&A based on what parents in our community often ask:

So, what’s the difference between homeschooling, distance learning, and an online school like MVA?

Homeschooling usually means the parent is the teacher and planner. Distance learning can be more passive, working through books or recorded lessons on your own. MVA, however, is a true online school: fully structured, interactive, and supported by experienced UK-qualifi ed teachers. Students follow a clear timetable, attend daily live lessons, and are part of a warm, connected school community, including regular in-person meetups.

What does a typical school day look like?

Students have a structured timetable with live lessons, social time, and independent study, supported by a fl ipped learning model. This gives your child fl exibility and structure, plus a dedicated personal mentor who checks in regularly. Expect weekly assemblies, lunchtime socials, and after-school clubs too. It’s a full, well-rounded school day.

Which curriculum does MVA follow?

MVA follows the British curriculum—Key Stage 3 to IGCSEs and International A-Levels—with a global twist. The programme prepares students for leading universities in the UK, UAE, and beyond. There’s also a fantastic Careers and Futures programme built in, focused on life skills as much as academic success.

Is this all recognised by universities and exam boards?

Yes. Students take the same Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge International exams as they would in British schools. MVA graduates head to top universities, including Russell Group institutions, and are well-equipped for both academic and real-world success.

What about the teachers?

All MVA teachers are UK-qualifi ed, with at least three years of classroom experience, often more. They’re also specially trained in online teaching, ensuring your child gets not just knowledge, but engagement and support.

What accreditation does MVA have?

We are fully accredited by the UK Department for Education and recognised globally - ranked among the Top 10 Schools in the World for Innovation. And as we continue expanding in the region, we’re in active discussions with the KHDA to ensure our approach aligns with Dubai’s educational vision.

This is the future of British education, and it's now available across the Middle East.
