October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month: Take the First Step Toward Safety and Support

Every October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month reminds us that behind closed doors, too many individuals continue to experience fear, control, and harm at the hands of those closest to them.

According to the World Health Organization, one in three women worldwide will experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime - most often by an intimate partner. In England and Wales, the latest Crime Survey reports that around 2.3 million adults experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2024, including 1.6 million women and 712,000 men. Behind these figures are real people whose lives are deeply impacted by fear, control, and harm, often in silence.

Domestic abuse is not limited to physical violence. It can also be emotional, psychological, financial, or controlling behaviour that strips away confidence and independence. Recognising these signs is the first step toward breaking the cycle. For many, seeking help can feel daunting - especially for British expats living abroad who may be uncertain about their legal rights or where to turn for advice.

At Astraea Linskills, we are dedicated to offering clarity, support, and understanding to those facing family law challenges. This October, we invite you to attend our Free Family Law Clinic in Dubai on Friday 24th October 2025, from 10am to 4pm. The event will be hosted by Sara Perischine, Director of Family Law, and Nama Zarroug, Founder of Astraea Linskills, both of whom are passionate about helping individuals navigate difficult circumstances with dignity and confidence.

If you or someone you know is affected by domestic violence, please remember - help is available, and you do not have to face it alone.

Places are limited and strictly by appointment only.
