BCCD Partners with Cigna Healthcare on Launch of Cigna's International Health Study UAE
Date Posted:Wed, 30th Oct 2024
We worked with Annual Partner Cigna Healthcare to launch their 2024 Cigna International Health Study at the Jumeirah Mina Al Salam Hotel in Dubai.
The launch event attracted over 75 attendees, comprising HR directors, healthcare and wellness professionals and business owners from various industries.
In her keynote, Leah Cotterill, CEO of Cigna Healthcare Middle East & Africa (outside KSA), immersed the audience in the data and painted a poignant full picture of the study, which reports on key aspects impacting health and well-being: social; occupational; financial; intellectual; physical; spiritual; emotional and environmental.
5 key insights from the study:
- People in the UAE experience high physical well-being, compared to global averages.
- Stress levels are showing a downward trend compared to the previous year.
- Financial pressures are the biggest contributors to stress in the UAE.
- UAE employees have one of the highest job satisfaction rates globally, but are also more likely to search for a new job.
- The biggest decline vs previous year was in mental health. More people in the UAE also report feeling lonely.

The panel discussion, moderated by BCCD Chair Andrew Mortimer, explored the study's findings, providing unique insights and perspectives:
Scott Armstrong, mentl: “Every year, the Cigna study reminds us of the duality of living in the UAE – it’s rewarding, but also demanding.”
Doctor Shefali Verma, The Flow Space: “The cultural drive for the ‘next best thing’ here is evident. The best step we can take? Managing our controllables and being more aware of our stress signals.”
Sarah Dalton, Jumeirah: “Proactively creating spaces and opportunities to promote positive well-being is essential to combat stress and loneliness among employees.”
Leah Cotterill, Cigna Healthcare Middle East & Africa: “The cost to businesses in terms of employee disengagement, recruitment, and training costs can be significant. Employers should consider increasing flexibility in the workplace, both in terms of place and time, providing mental and financial health support, training managers on how to effectively support employees, and even introducing part-time or job-sharing opportunities.”
Cigna Healthcare is an Annual Strategic Partner of the BCCD and Jumeriah is a Founding Sponsor.
