UK Business Engagement Newsletter - The Road to COP28 – Edition 6
Date Posted:Thu, 2nd Nov 2023
UK Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero, Rt Hon Graham Stuart, is currently in the UAE leading the UK's delegation to Pre-COP (30-31 October in Abu Dhabi). Pre-COP is the last critical stepping stone for climate negotiators to come together and set the tone for ambitious negotiated outcomes ahead of COP28. A key focus will be finding solutions to outstanding issues relating to the Global Stocktake (which is assessing progress against the climate goals agreed at COP21 in Paris in 2015), as well as finance deliberations, climate mitigation and adaptation commitments, and loss and damage. During his visit, the UK Minister will be holding meetings with UAE government and business leaders on climate and energy, as well as his counterparts from across the world to drive to ensure the success of COP28.

UK Net Zero
The PM announced pragmatic and more affordable changes to the UK’s approach to net zero last week alongside a continued commitment to net zero. The UK’s remains confident about meeting what are the most ambitious, stringent decarbonisation targets in the world and has cut emissions faster than any other G7 country, with that latest data showing that we’ve cut emissions by over 48%. The net zero changes will help UK business adapt to net zero and give them more time to build up supply chains.
