Eid Ul Adha Mubarak!

On this blessed occasion of Eid, we wish you and your family joy, happiness, peace and prosperity!

Eid ul Adha is synonymous with sacrifice. It is hard to give up things that are close to our hearts, yet that is in fact the nature of sacrifice. In the spirit of Eid ul Adha, we invite you to reflect – what are you prepared to part with to help those who are in need? Gulf for Good is here 20 years on, because of your support, generosity and willingness to give.

Scroll on for wonderful updates on the change we have affected with your support, and amazing summer events we have in store for you. We hope to inspire you and your loved ones to continue making a difference in your lives and the lives of children in need worldwide.

Highlight of the Month

Maasai School Receives Funds for Disabled Children

In October 2021, a group of Challengers from the Physical Training Company (PTC) summited Mount Kilimanjoro with Gulf for Good in support of the Foundation of African Empowerment’s (FAE) project – Enjoro Primary School in rural Masaai village in Northern Tanzania.

The first payment of USD10,000 from the total of USD37,000 raised through this Challenge was finally released to FAE very recently in June. Renovation work can now begin to furnish an existing room at Enjoro, sectioning it to accommodate a classroom for children with different disabilities, a disabled toilet, a kitchen area as well as a meeting room for the two special needs teachers. The entire space will be disability friendly to ensure that the 22 disabled students are suitably supported.

We couldn’t be more thrilled by this development as Enjoro, currently catering to 620 children and 12 full-time teachers, faces an acute shortage of classrooms. Students are studying in overcrowded classrooms, outdoors under trees or having shortened school hours to share the space. With only three complete and two semi-complete classrooms, Enjoro desperately needs our help.

Peruvian Gastronomy at Chicuchas Wasi Nourishes Kids

Back in April, we shared the news about the Chicuchas Wasi (CW) girls finally returning to school, two years post Covid.

In response to Covid19, Gulf for Good sent USD19,000 from our reserve funds plus an additional USD 1,650 from a fundraising campaign through Munch:On to provide food parcels for 126 families living in remote villages as well as learning materials so the girls could continue their studies from home until the school in Cusco resumed in March this year.

Four months on
The girls are now settled in, enjoying school and focussing on their studies whilst delighting in each other’s company. Food is one of the main attractions too. Ruth Uribe Barrios, President of CW Peru and the teachers are on a mission to nourish the children and ensure that they are fed, as for most of them, this is the only main meal that they get daily. Read the full story here.

A nutritional Peruvian dish such as Loco de Zapallo, chicken stew, lentils and Tarwi is prepared fresh daily for the girls to enjoy. Needless to say, lunchtime is fast becoming their favourite hour of the day!

Summer Volunteering Inspiration
Volunteers are always welcomed at Chicuchas Wasi School for Girls. With tourism gradually picking up in Peru, the school has been receiving requests from individuals looking to volunteer.

This July, our Goodwill Ambassador for Charity, Elaine Kelly will be teaching English and yoga at the school for 3 weeks. The girls at CW are excited and looking forward to seeing Elaine and learn new things.

Jen Sault, our Board Member and Director of Thrift for Good will also be paying the school a visit while she is in Peru, climbing Machu Picchu!

Follow us on Instagram for updates on Elaine and Jen's Peru adventures.

Donate a Kitchen for Tibetan Children

This summer, we are fundraising for SOS Tibetan Children’s Villages (TCV) in India through various initiatives including the Ladakh Charity Challenge taking place at end of this week and Golf for Good event this October.

SOS TCV has been looking after orphan and destitute Tibetan and local Ladakhi children since 1861 and is currently caring for 1,590 children. Each hostel has 20 children with the help of one foster mother. We are raising funds to renovate and upgrade kitchens and toilets in four of the hostels, supporting around 80 adolescents. At present, children in the village cook on the floor.

Learn more about this project here.

Help us improve these Tibetan children’s lives by donating on YallaGive.com.

What's On in July

Our Ladakh Challengers have been training hard and are now ready to set off and conquer the Markha valley trek over the upcoming Eid break. Led by Gulf for Good Chairwoman, Anne Edmondson and an experienced team of local guides, our four Challengers will embark on a memorable hike through Northern India, enjoying the spectacular views and mountain passes to raise funds for the Tibetan Children's Villages.

Head over to our website for info on our Charity Challenges and how you can help make a difference through life-altering expeditions.
