Business teams have experienced unprecedented disruption and uncertainty over the last two years. Everyone has been so busy working remotely that they haven’t had time or the opportunity to spend time consciously improving the health of the team.
This is something that BBG member Andy Fieldhouse, Founder of The Team Space, has noticed in his work with teams in Dubai. He has partnered with aviation training company Dynamic Advanced Training to create a new and unique team building and coaching experience designed to address this issue – something that has featured recently in Arabian Business and Khaleej Times.
“Dynamic’s highly realistic flight cabin simulators and other facilities give us the ability to put teams into situations that are mirroring the uncertainties and unpredictability of their existence.” says Andy. “There’s so much for the teams to learn about themselves.” Andy continues “We have team-level coaching conversations around what happened, so they have greater awareness about themselves as a team. They leave with concrete, meaningful action plans that they have created based upon this awareness, to help them build themselves into a better team”.
One of the first teams to go through the program was the Leadership team from Jumeirah Beach Hotel. “We had an incredible session with Andy.” says Stella Daskalakis, Head of HR & Talent.
“Having previously organised and participated in many team building activations over the years, I thought I knew what to expect. But this was unlike any program I have encountered before. The truly unique, immersive experience, and thought-provoking discussions, were incredibly insightful and we had a lot of fun as a bonus! The team worked together through a learning journey and as a result identified new and effective ways of working together”.
Andy encourages people to spend some valuable time working ‘on’ and not ‘in’ their team. “The activities we use are such a good opportunity for teams to learn and also have fun together!” says Andy. “Taking some time away from the coal face of work to recalibrate, reconnect and develop the team and the relationships between people in it is vital”.
