Andrea - Amazing Mums Sensory Supplies

1. How long have you been in Dubai?

Thanks for offering me the opportunity to introduce myself I am a small business owner and mum of two, Oscar (14) and Maisie (12). We have been in Dubai for over 13 years now. I have been a member of the BBG for only a year but have found it to be really helpful and supportive. One member helped with marketing, another helped with building our website it has been fantastic. I set up Amazing Mums Sensory Supplies 4 years ago with the ethos of providing affordable sensory and therapy items to SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) families, clinic, carers, schools and anyone else who may need them. As a SEND family ourselves we are more than aware of the excruciating costs of these items from larger providers and wanted to be able to support our community in a more cost-effective way. Our aim in the future is to be able to offer job opportunities to those in our community who otherwise struggle to find gainful employment.

2. Did you see a change in pace in your business during the lockdown?

Like many small businesses Covid has had a significant impact on the way we market ourselves and do business. The vast majority of customers want to see, touch and feel our products prior to purchase but sadly this is no longer a viable and safe option. So we have had to up our game with regards to our social media presence by making far more descriptive and detailed posts and videos. Thus ensuring the customers know what they are getting in greater detail.  We also the switched focus of the products we were promoting to better support home learning and therapies vs in school/centre or clinic.

3. Who is your ideal client?

While we have previously focused on therapy and educational organisations we are hoping to branch out and provide our products to the hospitality industry going forward. With the aim of ensuring that all environments are SEND friendly and inclusive. While our products are often aimed at those with sensory or therapy needs as the latest craze of Push n Pop fidgets and previously the Fidget Spinner have proven we all have sensory needs and these items can be used by anyone anywhere.

 4. What do you look to achieve through your BBG Membership?

As a small business we rely heavily on word of mouth and social media to raise awareness of the work we are doing and we would welcome any support, guidance or mentoring anyone may be able to offer.
