UAE Parents Guide to Beach & Pool Safety Launched for World Drowning Prevention Day
Date Posted:Wed, 22nd Jul 2026
To coincide with the United Nations World Drowning Prevention Day on 25 July, Ocean Warriors Surf Lifesaving Club has produced a free Parents’ Guide to Beach & Pool Safety, helping families stay safe while enjoying the summer holidays and beyond.
With many British Chamber members spending time at beaches, pools and possibly waterparks over the summer, Ocean Warriors is encouraging families to take just a few minutes to refresh their water safety knowledge before entering the water.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people lose their lives to drowning worldwide, with many of these incidents preventable. A few simple habits can make an enormous difference, which is why the UAE Parents’ Guide to Beach & Pool Safety was created.
You can take a look and download the guide from here. It includes ten practical tips, from choosing lifeguarded beaches and understanding beach flags to actively supervising children, avoiding distractions and reliance on inflatables.
It also includes a simple guide explaining what to do if you ever see someone in difficulty in the water, including how to encourage them to float, when to call for help and why “Throw, Don’t Go” is often the safest response. Hopefully it’s never needed, but it’s knowledge that could one day save a life.
As the first Surf Lifesaving GB club established outside the UK and the only Royal Life Saving Society UK accredited club in the UAE, Ocean Warriors is committed to helping create safer beaches and stronger communities through practical water safety education.
The Club returns for its new season on 11 September 2026, offering internationally recognised surf lifesaving and water safety programmes for children aged three through to adults. Families interested in learning more are invited to register for a free trial session.
If you find the guide useful, we would encourage you to share it with grandparents, friends, nannies or anyone spending time around water this summer. Together, we can all help make more families aware of the small actions that make a big difference.
This World Drowning Prevention Day, please just take just five minutes to read the guide. It may be the most valuable five minutes you spend this summer.
